WHAT DO WE DO?
Glasgow Clyde College counselling service offers free, private counselling to all students currently enrolled at the college. Counselling can help deal with personal problems including long-standing issues and short term crises.
We provide friendly, private support to students who wish help with any difficulties they may be experiencing. Talking through your problems can help to improve your wellbeing and impact positively on your studying. It may be beneficial to speak to someone outwith your immediate group of family, friends and tutors.
WHAT PROBLEMS DO STUDENTS SEE A COUNSELLOR ABOUT?
Problems arising from a variety of issues such as:
- trouble with family and friends
- feelings resulting from an event such as bereavement of trauma
- difficulties adjusting to life as a student/living away from home
You can approach a counsellor with any personal problem who can also help them access assistance from an outside specialist agency if they find that helpful. The counselling service will not be able to assist with practical issues such as money, housing, childcare or benefits. If you would like to access counselling, you can do so by making an appointment directly from the Student App. Counselling can be accessed at any of the campuses, not only the campus you are currently attending.
WILL ANYONE KNOW IF I ATTEND COUNSELLING?
No, unless you specifically request it. The counselling service guarantees privacy to all students. Students of all ages, backgrounds, gender, full or part-time and distance learners can make use of the counselling service.
HOW MUCH TIME WIILL IT TAKE?
As a guideline, each session lasts for 50 minutes. The frequency of the visits is usually weekly but depends upon what you and counsellor agree is appropriate. You are requested to make counselling appointments for a time when you are not timetabled to be in class although very occasionally, there might be a slight overlap. If this should occur, you are asked to bring it to the attention of your course tutor.
